Keeping busy

January is here and so is my fascination with all things organizational.  So in the past 24 hours I have:
  • Completely cleaned Michael's room.  Organizing all his "momentos" into large plastic bins (favorite accessory).

  • Turned his closet into my children's library.  I truly had no idea how many children's books I had purchased over the years.  Now there they all are (little secret--in alphabetical order).

  • Closed out all my 2010 financial information and started fresh for 2011 with Quicken.  Downloaded all my accounts and I'm all in financial order now.
  • Started and completed a book I had wanted to read for forever.  I loved it, as I love all books relating to World War II.  I'd definitely reccomend it.
  • Went back to the gym after a too-long hiatus nursing my bad shoulder.  Still am not crazy about going to the gym, but we do what we have to do.
Here's to a new year and starting fresh.

all I wanted for Christmas

Everytime anyone asked me what I wanted for Christmas, all I said was that I wanted my kids home.  That is exactly what i got.

But now my big kids have gone back to their homes, to resume their lives.  And although I know that they are doing exactly what they should be doing (and doing it very well) I miss them dearly.

2011

Welcome 2011!  2010 was really a pretty bad year, so I'm not all that sorry to see it go.  Sometimes it is hard to be optimistic.  But today, I pledge to believe that 2011 will be better.  There are great things in store for me and my family.

Besides, today it was 11:11 am on 1/1/11.

And I got to use my new pie bird, which I read about here, and felt that everyone needed (especially me). So I found it here and am very pleased with the results.

Sun, Glorious Sun

I live in Modesto, California and the sun is a rare commodity in January--we live in a constant state of gray fogginess (tule fog for those who want a more technical term). Now if you live in other sunnier places:

1. You will not understand this problem

2. You may somehow imagine that it may actually be nice to live in the fog (you are delusional)

3. You are much luckier than me

I do not go back to work until January 19, which is a delightful thing; except when you spend your days looking out the window at the wet, cold grayness of life. So when you are blessed with a 62 degree day like today,

you wear flip flops, roll down the windows and bask in the glow of the sun--and when the fog comes back tomorrow bringing us back to the grayness, you hold onto days like today.
